Kling 1.6 (December 2024) is Kuaishou's text-to-video model. Came out of nowhere mid-2024 and rapidly became the dominant generative video tool inside China. 1080p, up to 10 seconds, with image-to-video and motion-brush controls (start/end keyframes). Pricing: $0.07-0.10/sec equivalent — roughly 1/5 of Veo 2. International launch via klingai.com and KIE.AI accepts USD billing.
Editor's verdict
The cost-quality sweet spot for production video — character animation and stylised content (anime, realistic portraits) compete with Veo 2 at a fifth the price. International builders use KIE.AI to avoid PRC billing friction. Weakness: physics on complex multi-object scenes is below Veo 2; English-language prompt understanding is decent but Mandarin prompts work best. The right pick if you want to ship video features without burning runway.
