Editor's verdict
Pure legacy at this point — GPT-4o is cheaper and stronger, GPT-5 dominates frontier work. The reason to know GPT-4 Turbo is reading old prompt-engineering content (most pre-2024 'GPT-4' guides are about this exact build). Don't deploy it new; if you must compare baselines, run head-to-head against GPT-4o-mini, which often matches it at one twentieth the price.
