When AI search fails
AI search hallucinates citations. The model will produce a summary that sounds right and reference "Source [3]" — and source 3 doesn't actually say that. Always click into citations on anything that matters.
AI search has a recency problem. Models get fed new web data on a delay (hours to days). For breaking news, regular Google or directly going to the source publication is faster.
AI search summaries flatten disagreement. When experts disagree about a topic, AI tools tend to present the consensus or the loudest voice and downweight contrarian positions. For controversial or evolving topics, read the sources directly.
