DMCA Takedown Policy

Last updated: 2026-04-27

BuilderWorld respects intellectual property and responds to takedown notices that comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. If you believe content posted to BuilderWorld infringes your copyright, follow the procedure below.

How to submit a takedown notice

Email support@builderworld.io with the subject line "DMCA Takedown Notice" and include all of the following. Missing any element makes the notice invalid under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3):

1. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or someone authorized to act on their behalf.

2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed (e.g., "my photograph titled X published on date Y at URL Z"). If multiple works on the same site, a representative list is acceptable.

3. Identification of the infringing material — provide the BuilderWorld URL(s) directly. "My work is on builderworld.io somewhere" is not sufficient.

4. Your contact information: name, address, telephone number, and email.

5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.

6. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are authorized to act on behalf of the owner.

We may share your notice (including identifying details) with the user who posted the allegedly infringing material, so they have an opportunity to respond.

What happens after we receive a valid notice

We review the notice for completeness; incomplete notices are returned with a request for the missing items.

For complete notices we remove or disable access to the identified material expeditiously, typically within 24-72 hours of receipt.

We notify the user who posted the material, forward your notice to them, and let them know they may submit a counter-notice (see below).

We log the action in our internal moderation audit log (date, URL, requester) for record-keeping and pattern detection.

How to submit a counter-notice

If your content was removed in error or you have the right to use it (e.g., fair use, license you hold, you ARE the copyright owner), email support@builderworld.io with the subject line "DMCA Counter-Notice" and include:

1. Your physical or electronic signature.

2. Identification of the material that was removed and where it appeared before removal.

3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed by mistake or misidentification.

4. Your name, address, and telephone number.

5. A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or, if your address is outside the U.S., the Northern District of California where Vercel is headquartered) and that you will accept service of process from the original notice submitter.

On receipt of a valid counter-notice, we forward it to the original notice submitter. If they do not file suit within 10-14 business days, we may restore the material.

Repeat infringer policy

We terminate accounts that receive multiple valid DMCA takedown notices, in line with 17 U.S.C. § 512(i). "Multiple" is judged contextually but typically means 3+ unrelated notices in a 12-month window. Termination removes all of that account's content from BuilderWorld.

False claims have consequences

Submitting a takedown notice for material you don't actually hold copyright over, or for material clearly within fair use, may make you liable for damages including costs and attorneys' fees under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f). Don't use DMCA to silence criticism or competitors. We document patterns of bad-faith filings and reserve the right to refuse repeat filers.

Designated agent

BuilderWorld is operated by an independent developer. Until our designated agent is registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, send notices to support@builderworld.io. We will update this page with the agent's official identifier once registration is complete. Notices sent to support@builderworld.io are treated as validly delivered.

Non-U.S. takedown requests

We accept takedown requests rooted in non-U.S. copyright frameworks (e.g., EU, UK, Taiwan) using the same procedure. Substitute the corresponding statutory references in your notice; the substantive requirements (work identified, location identified, good-faith belief, contact info, signature) are essentially the same.
